Jenny Chicaiza (Hostess at Hacienda Zuleta)
Hacienda Zuleta is an enchanting place, filled with surprises that allow us to live unforgettable adventures.
Thanks to a group of youngsters from the Ecuadorian coast and a family from England, we recently were able to enjoy a new and exceptionally rustic trekking route here at the Hacienda. Amable, our guide, told us about the route and warned us it was particularly for adventurous people, which only motivated us even more.
Upon entering the mountainous forest, we immediately noted an incredible amount of differing species of flora, and the beautiful birds sang us songs of welcome upon our arrival to their home. The old trees shaded us with their dense branches, allowing us to walk in the gentle light without overtiring from the intense sun up above us. We began crossing the small rushing river every time the trail switched direction, which was quite often, and this quickly united the adventurous group as we needed to hold hands to help one another, and a few were even carried across on occasion, forming fast friendships out of the affair.
Uncertainty lifted as we suddenly heard the distinct sound of a waterfall off in the distance; we knew it would be worth it to arrive at the destination once we felt that we were finally getting close. However in those moments of feeling so near the end suddenly the trail seemed longer and was certainly rougher. Finally, we saw the waterfall but the final obstacle was a steep descent that required the use of vines to properly arrive at the base of the waterfall and it’s pool. Once at the bottom we could truly appreciate the crystalline waters falling against the smooth stones, surrounded by a lush green environment. Once again, nature had its own majestic way of confirming the harmonious relationship that can occur between humans and their environment.
It was time to turn back but we were filled with new energy and feeling satisfied to have reached our goal so the return journey ended up being significantly easier. We came back very sure of ourselves as if we had conquered the trail itself. The whole experience made us fall in love with the Zuleta countryside all over again.
Hacienda Zuleta es un lugar realmente encantado, lleno de sorpresas que nos llevan a vivir aventuras difíciles de olvidar.
Un grupo de jóvenes, entre ecuatorianos de la costa y una familia de extranjeros, buscábamos conocer algo nuevo y especial dentro de la Hacienda. Amable, nuestro guía, nos habló sobre la ruta y advirtió que es realmente para gente aventurera, lo cual nos motivó aún más.
Al adentrarnos en el bosque montano, empezamos a divisar una increíble cantidad de especies en flora y hermosos pájaros que cantaban como dándonos la bienvenida a su maravilloso hogar. Los viejos árboles nos cubrían con sus tupidas ramas y por supuesto que su gentil sombra nos permitía caminar sin mayor fatiga. Empezamos a cruzar riachuelos cada vez que el sendero terminaba para poder seguir la ruta, esto fue tal vez lo que más unió al grupo, ya que cada uno tendió su mano e incluso cargaron a sus compañeros, haciendo que en pocas horas todos seamos grandes amigos.
La incertidumbre comenzó cuando escuchamos el caer del agua a lo lejos, realmente valía la pena llegar a nuestro destino para observar la maravilla que sentíamos aproximarse. Cuando al fin fuimos advertidos que en poco tiempo llegaríamos; pareciera que el camino se hacía más largo en esos minutos restantes. Al fin vimos la cascada, tuvimos que ayudarnos de lianas para poder descender y llegar hasta el lugar mismo de su cause. Al llegar, todo era impresionante, ver al agua cristalina caer y chocar sobre las piedras, en un entorno totalmente verde y acogedor, una vez más, la naturaleza nos daba una lección de cuan majestuosa puede mostrarse, en armonía con el ser humano.
Era hora de volver, nos sentíamos llenos de energía y felices de haber logrado nuestro propósito, el camino de regreso se mostró aún más fácil, regresamos más seguros de nosotros mismos, como si hubiésemos conquistado a la ruta. Nos dejamos encartar y enamorar del paisaje y las tierras zuleteñas.
